To find out what gets written to the console, enable this in
/etc/syslog.conf:

# uncomment this to log all writes to /dev/console to /var/log/console.log
console.info                                    /var/log/console.log

Don't forget to:

# touch /var/log/console.log
# kill -HUP `cat /var/run/syslog.pid`
