No, this is how it should work. If something goes wrong during the
boot process, the system will start up in single-user mode to give you
a chance to fix it, and mounting the root partition read-only prevents
it from being trashed by whatever's causing the problem. Not to
mention the possibility of finger-slips by the sysadmin 8-)
