I have it too with an Elsa Airlancer MC11 (Lucent/Orinoco chipset)
and a Dell Inspiron 8000.

I'm always observing it when the signal is not so strong (resulting in
2Mbit speed). The timing situation may be different then.

I unplug the PCMCIA card then and let the card getting
detached. Then I run manually the command /etc/startif_wi0 which contains
the ifconfig commands for the wireless lan.

Then I stop dhclient and run it manually (dhclient wi0). Sometimes the
system freezes when doing this (especially when I run X - probably the
system is panicking behind the X-Screen)
