At my "unofficial" mirror (ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de)  there are gzipped files,
but you are right, at one of the official mirrors (ftp.fb9dv.uni-duisburg.de)
I found the compressed version.

Now I built it from the ports file, and it works. Only the package file 
crashes.
