The T41/42 have several advantages in general and especially for FreeBSD
users:

- spare parts are easily available, it is no problem to buy a mini PCI
card with atheros chipset from IBM/Lenovo

- the T41/42 hardware is completely supported by FreeBSD, which is not
the case for the X60/T60 models (wireless, sound)

- they are quiet, which is not the case for the slightly newer T43/T43p,
that would also be a good choice otherwise

I have T41 and a T43p and I won't switch to a T60 as long
as it's not fully supported by FreeBSD.

my 2 cents :)
