I seriously hope the use of __FreeBSD__ to find the version you're
building is going away.  It is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
__FreeBSD__ has the version of the COMPILER, and that should _NOT_ be
significant (unless you happen to be working around compile bugs, of
course).
