which network interface do you use? 3Com 509?

Check the mailing list archives, there are lots of messages concerning this
behaviour.

I tried several things: increase the number of MAXUSERS in your kernel
do a netstat -m to look for the buffers available.

or to workaround to a ifconfig ep0 up or ep1 up.
