The HP Deskjet 890 series printers and above achieve 600x600dpi black
and I think 600x600dpi color. The 870 series did 600x600dpi black and
something like 320x320 color. The numbers you see on the outsides of
the pretty boxes mean precisely jack. An Epson printer that claims
1440x1440dpi doesn't appear to do as well as an HP that supposedly has
a resolution that is 4 times worse. Thats marketing for you, though.
You pretty much just have to see things with your own eyes to make any
real comparisons. I just noticed HP is claiming 2400x1200dpi on some
of its higher-end printers, but I'm betting that means (just like the
Epson printers), they can position the head at that resolution, but
they can't spit a dot onto the paper that small.
