At this point in time it seems like there's a fair amount of porting, backpatching, and code sharing between the BSDs. Who came first has less to do with anything than the philosophy and focus of each project today, and how well it fits with a particular application. If the wikipedia article helps people determine suitability for a purpose then it's worthwhile.
