This is, of course, nothing like what was suggested.

The problem with automatic checking of ports is that addport depends on 
the port infrastructure on the system it's being run on being up-to-date.

Since this isn't the case on freefall, automatic port checking doesn't 
work.  A better fix would either be to update the infrastructure on 
freefall (poor) or have addport keep a private, up-to-date copy of the 
infrastructure somewhere else (better).
