But it's not only Julian who is surprised. In the meantime some people
(including me) started using this code - I can testify it was far from
being perfect, but it worked most of the time. Perhaps it would be better
to leave this code in the tree, including short note discouraging its
use, instead of completely nuking it without any replacement...
