Since this is the thread:

Apparently the NetBSD code can find the IDE drive, as shown by
Doug Ambrisko netbooting an iMac with NetBSD, and the dmesg
showing both IDE controllers and the disk and CDROM attached
to each, respectively.

Time to start a freebsd-imac list...
