My apologies to everyone.

My mouse freezing and behavior problems appear to have been caused by
not cleaning out my compile directory prior to building a new kernel.

I added:

options KBDIO_DEBUG=2
options PSM_DEBUG=2

per suggestion from Kazu and deleted the compile directory as I used
to do. So far, since rebuilding a clean, new kernel, I've experienced
no problems. It looks, at this point, to be a self-induced problem.
