There is a company out there that sells a product called xvscan for $50.
It comes as a fully registered copy of xv, with HP scanner support.  There
is also hpscan in the ports.  Having used xvscan, I can tell you it's a
nice product, and having registered xv is a nice side bonus.  I have no
experience with hpscan.
