Unless you mean "don't buy the drive; you may be able to get a sample unit", but I don't think that "right hands" was directed towards me. I'm curious to know, though, what you've learned so far. We already have an "ATAPI tape" driver, which presumably means QIC-157/SFF-8020i? Is the OnStream drive not based on those standards, or do we just not know yet? If nobody's tried it, who knows, maybe it'll Just Work. :-) I have an Exabyte TR-3 drive at home that I've occasionally considered working on, but it hardly seems worth it at this point.
