I think it is an oft-wondered question that is not always posed by newbies. IOW, they ask themselves the question but don't think it is very important and thus don't bother asking out loud. They then do not ask the question and do not learn the meaning, to their loss. (Not all FreeBSD newbies are ex-Unix hackers ya know). If it is in the FAQ, then they will read that because they don't have to "bother" anyone to ask it. At least, that was how I was about this and similar questions when I was a newbie. If that philosophy does not fit with the FAQ, then that is ok. However, I do have one question for you: is there such a thing as too much documentation?
