You might want to take a couple minutes and check the stable@ archives
to get some context.  The problem being discussed is one that appeared 
between 4.5-RELEASE and 4.6-RELEASE.

Has your CD-ROM drive ever worked?  If no, then I think this is a
different problem than the one that's been hitting people (which
apparently just showed up in 4-STABLE after a mega-merge of the ata(4)
driver).
