When installing X fonts whats the best way to do this

say I found a font I really like thats manily for windows ...the file is called XCELI.TTF

So I figured I could go to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF and place the file there..then open ip xfontsel and have at it..

This didnt work...so my question is.. how do you install custem X fonts and can you use windows fonts?
