Brian,

The SSLeay version in the ports directory built fine for me.

You can try the patches listed that supposedly work with apache 1.2 from
here:
http://www.algroup.co.uk/Apache-SSL

I also once found a precompiled https at:
ftp://200.247.23.97/packages/apachessl_1.2.tgz
