  This does not belong on freebsd-hackers.

  2.2-960801-SNAP is very old, plus it was only a beta.  I would never use
such a system for production use.

  To get more than ptys you will need to rebuild a new kernel.  You need
to increase number in  "pseudo-device pty" from 16 to 64 (or higher).
