The difference here is that MTA foo doesn't usually replace MTA bar
(in the ports tree, not on people's machines if they choose to switch :).

The ports tree is cleaned out every few months by removing stuff in
the Attic.  History of old ports will be lost forever if they aren't
preserved in some way.  If it truly is gone, there's nothing we can do
about it, but if it is replaced (by something whether it comes from
the same source or not), we try to keep them by copying it first.

All this is in the cvsguide.txt, of course.  But people don't seem to
read it these days. :)
