After having sorted out the PR's one item remains, and that is the problem
with my AC97 compatible sound-device. Has anyone verified that recording
works with AC97?

Is it likely that my soundcard uses a fixed samplerate and has to be
soft-downsampled? Can it be that the samplerate is written to the wrong
register?

Does anyone have any patches or suggestions I might try to get this
sound-device working?
