That is the YP domain name.

The Internet domain name is the part of your hostname after the first
dot.  It may also be listed in /etc/resolv.conf, but be aware that the
use of the `domain' directive there is deprecated in favor of
`searchlist'.

If your hostname is not fully-qualified, then something has made an
error in setting up your machine.
