It cannot be killed with a kill -9 signal. Fails with a plextor ATA CDROM drive in its place too so it's a controller/os/bus issue. The hardware is the same as a compaq proliant 850r except in desktop form. See dmesg for details. Only a reboot solves the problem as the process is unkillable. MEdia and drive work ok in another system.
