You only need to do a vipw on the client side and add
the last line
+:::::::::

Are you running rcp.yppasswdd on the server? Are you using the correct
flags as in man rcp.yppasswdd?

I'm using /etc/master.passwd (MASTER_PASSWD=/etc/master.passwd in
/var/yp/Makefile on the server. I find it easier to maintain)
