I doubt very much that adding the last cylinder to the file system or
changing the "active" flag will make any difference.

So this is a disk drive, not flash, but in a CF package, right?  I would be
curious to know if a 4GB flash card works, but I don't suppose you have one
sitting around.

Can you give us the full dmesg for this card/reader?
