Hello, I am getting the following error message from my hard disk: wd0s2f: hard error reading fsbn 208044 of 208016-208047 (wd0s2 bn 389484; cn 193 tn 6 sn 18)wd0: status 59<seekdone,drq,err> error 1<no_dam> I have a Compaq Armada 1125 notebook computer. I am running FreeBSD 2.1.5. I get the above error message consistently when I try to read a certain file. Other than that one thing, the system appears to work fine. When I boot up single and do an fsck, fsck indicates no problems with the file systems. Should I try to use badsect or bad144 to tell the device driver to never use a part of the hard drive? Is this an unrecoverable error that means I should just go buy a replacement hard drive for my computer? Is there some table that defines what is being used or not used in the file store that I can manually tweak in order to convince the kernel that a part of the disk is in use? Perhaps create a large dummy file that is a superset of the bad part of the disk and then just never touch or move that file? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks, Greg Johnson
