Since gx is totally replacing wx, would it just be possible to have gx be
called wx in -stable? I suspect the real complaints will be from people
who build a new generic kernel, and reboot only to find that they have the
wrong nic listed in /etc/rc.conf. The actual driver changes will probably
go unnoticed by most, so renaming at least sounds safe.

(Unless media options need to be set, and there are incompatibilities
there.)

I don't actually have one of these cards, but I remember having similar
feelings of annoyance when the wd -> ad translation was removed. Sure,
only a few character replacements in fstab were necessary, but having to
make that change when not expecting it was quite disturbing.

So, remove wx and rename gx, or add warnings telling everyone that wx will
no longer be updated - just please make sure that a new kernel will drop
into the place of an old one even if someone did forget to read
src/UPDATING.

Just my 5 cents,
