How do you go about changing the default search path for ld ?

I know you can set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH envirnment variable but I don't want to
have to this in every shell. I would like it to be set at boot time.

I can't seem to search the questions archives of freebsd.org their down right
now.

I didn't get much help from the man page either.
