Though there are several clients allowing connections to the (in
some fields basically broken) POP3 implementation of Exchange, I
guess you'll have a hard time finding a free / open source software
package connecting to MAPI. Basically, MAPI is a highly proprietary
protocol Exchange and Outlook are using not only for transferring
e-mails but also for all the other stuff you might want to do with
Exchange (centralized appointment scheduling and groupware working,
for example). Given that, you might=20

(a) want to set up your Exchange host to at least support
standardized e-mail protocols like POP3 and SMTP - if you're the
admin of that box, this shouldn't be too difficult, given that you
still can't use the groupware/scheduling stuff,

(b) check for some commercial MAPI connectors for free software
(IIRC, there is one by ximian made for the evolution mailreader).

Dunno about both SAP and Tivoli but about the web frontends of
several document managemt systems we are working with, and by now I
am happily using Mozilla|Firebird on both Win32 and *BSD/Linux
without any trouble. :)
