I use both a Mozilla chain (firefox, java, flash etc) and a
mplayer/xine chain that is built for Linux/i386 on all my platforms,
which includes FreeBSD/i386, Linux/amd64 and FreeBSD/amd64.

Works very well for me.  It is not that Linux/amd64 doesn't have the
problem mentioned, too ;-)
