Newer versions of gcc have trouble compiling bits of the base system
because they changed the boundaries of what it considers acceptible
code.  Best bet is to upgrade to 4.2-STABLE or wait for 4.3, due out
in a month or so.  4.x has gcc 2.95.mumble
