It is reproducable. All I could do additionally is to check a
complete make clean to make sure there is nothing still lying around
and retry; I'll do that this evening.

I doubt that. The system ran stable unter FBSD 4.3 for more than a
year. DP2 also runs stable, I compiled e.g. mozilla, KDE3 and made
buildworld without any problem.
