 This is mostly a shot in the dark, but a number of CD-RWs like to
 be master on the controller.  Moreover, some non-UDMA2 devices do
 not interact well with UDMA2 devices on the same controller.  Just
 for fun, you might see what happens when you remove the Maxtor
 drive from ata0 and make the CD-RW master.
