The splash code adds almost nothing to the bootblocks; most of the 
growth is the "extras" section stuff, which should reduce the footprint 
required for the USERCONFIG_BOOT option.  All of this becomes moot as 
soon as someone extracts their digit and writes the ELF bootloader.
