I got it to work on a 2.1.5 box.  I grabbed the one from the
freebsd.org/pub/LOCAL_PORTS, uncompressed and untarred it, followed the
readmes etc.  I ony hit a couple bumps - because it was compiled under 3.0
you either need libc.so.3.0, or to fake one - I copied libc.so.2.2 to
libc.so.3.0 and it worked. I did not try kaffe.
