I did a similar thing. I partitioned the disk into partitions that allowed booting. The first partition was below 500Mb. Actually, I used 40MB and made it the root partition. I put DOS on the partition. Then, I used the FreeBSD sysinstall. The Seagate disk manager will not work with FreeBSD. After booting, FreeBSD does not use BIOS to access the disk.
