The compat libraries used to be installed from the FreeBSD sources
(FreeBSD 5.x and under). So, if you had one of the previous FreeBSD
versions, you might have installed them from the sources.

The compat libraries were moved to ports, inorder to make it easier to
give ports dependancies compat libraries. When this was done, it was
seen that having the compat libraries in both ports and the sources
was redundant.
