I think you've misread the message; clearly it's: key FreeBSD personnel
will not be allowed to attend conventions. 

Obviously the FreeBSD server hardware is extremely jealous of the core
team's affections and will take drastic action (cunningly disguised as
innocent and random hardware failure) to ensure they are not 
distracted by the fun and carefree times available at an industry
convention.

To show that this is even more likely to occur when the trade show
involved is a *Linux* event is left as an exercise for the reader.
