If you are not going to use user ppp to dial out to
your ISP then you can comment it out in the kernel
source and recompile the kernel to remove it.

i tried :
ifconfig tun0 destroy
ifconfig tun0 remove
ifconfig tun0 plumb
no luck >
this is on freebsd 4.5
