Actually it was a Debian 2.1 box. That team had more experience with
FreeBSD (and considered briefly to replace the Linux with that) and
installed some programs off of a FreeBSD CD. Somehow this got blown
up in the news...

Both are accounts of participants of that team.
A rough translation of the former mail:
"... That doesn't exactly fit the truth, but it's good press :-).
 The others "stole" our net access with a tcp/udp connection resetter.
 So I asked someone to fetch my FreeBSD 3.2 CDs, since they have the
 unmodified sources in distfiles/. That wouldn't have been possible
 with Redhat-CDs :-)"
