Beside whois [-a | -r | -p | ...]  <ip-address>, you could "traceroute
<ip-address>", find a host nearby the destination, and see if you can
resolve that hostname. Once you have the domain name of the nearby host,
find the nameserver (NS-record) for the domain and check if you can find
out more if you directly query that nameserver (nslookup <ip-address>
-<nameserver>), try to "list" the domain and "grep" for the
<ip-address>, or better check the SOA record and write an email to the
hostmaster.
