Because this is a Compaq I won't promise that this will work.  That
said, try adding this line to your kernel config file:

options		"MAXMEM=(XXX*1024)"

In this case XXX==32.

If you need help building a new kernel you should have a look at the
FreeBSD Handbook.  It is available on your machine if you installed
the "doc" package, otherwise it's available at http://www.freebsd.org/
