You have to compile more ptys into your kernel. I only have 16:

nexgen: {181} cd /usr/src/sys/i386/conf
nexgen: {182} grep pty NEXGEN
pseudo-device   pty     16
nexgen: {183}

I started with a copy of GENERIC, edited it to my satisfaction, and named
it NEXGEN, after my machine.

Then execute:

	config NEXGEN			# (or whatever)
	cd ../../compile/NEXGEN		# ditto
	make
	make install
	shutdown -r now

If the new kernel blows up, at the BootEasy prompt boot "kernel.old" or
"kernel.GENERIC" and you should be running again. But before you reboot to
the new kernel make sure you know what kernels you have in advance as its
easier than asking BootEasy when your nerves are frayed and your system is
bonko.
