It seems acpi_attach() is passing this argument to sysctl_add_oid() at
line 408:

    sc->acpi_sysctl_tree = SYSCTL_ADD_NODE(&sc->acpi_sysctl_ctx,
                               SYSCTL_STATIC_CHILDREN(_hw), OID_AUTO,
                               device_get_name(dev), CTLFLAG_RD, 0, "");

device_get_name() returns a char *, so this should be fine.  *shrug*
This works for all sorts of other people all the time, so not sure why
you are seeing this.
