Hmm.  I recall that one of the participants in the discussion
happened to be a certain "jkh", and at no time was it brought
up to me that "hey, there is a procedure XXX to follow".

Now this doesn't excuse the fact that perhaps I should have done
things differently, but posturing after the deed that "this was 
not done right!" when you were aware of the situation doesn't 
strike me as right either.
