FreeBSD t42 8.0-PRERELEASE FreeBSD 8.0-PRERELEASE #0: Mon Nov 23 08:42:00 CLST 2009 root@t42:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386
>Description:
I have just installed 8.0 RC3 (i386) on my old IBM T42, which has an Ati Radeon 7500 graphics device.

Unfortunately, Xorg 7.4 crashes the whole system upon exit. My first reaction was to upgrade the kernel to RELENG_8 as of yesterday, but the bug is still there.

Disabling DRI On xorg.conf solved it.

Some additional investigations led me to some Linux users that experienced the same problem on this hardware, as reported here (i disagree on it being solved however, i'm also filling this bug report with the freedesktop people):

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14497

In my case, putting

Option "AGPMode" "4"

on the Device section of xorg.conf solved it.

>How-To-Repeat:
Start Xorg 7.4 with DRI enabled.
>Fix:
Workaround:

Put Option "AGPMode" "4"

on the Device section of xorg.conf
