Hi greg, Brian, David and others...
I have gotten a long way down install path into my system:

pentium Intel 120 32 Mb ram 2 coms & lpts
Kingstone DEC type 21041 Ether NIC
Mitsumi IDE 8xCD 1 Gb IDE disc
1x 1.44 Mb floppy 16 bit creative type Sound card
It is installed in a 500 Mb partition with Win95 in the other and
booteasy...(it does too ! )

What I want... A gateway machine for my 20 wintel 95 clients to mail
and web out there. I wish to popmail off my other server as outlined
below, from any client on this "hope to be" LAN.

My ISP IPs dynamically.
I have another remote server with my mail system on it on a separate
LAN (my ISP set up freebsd on it...permanent dial in connection)

What my new fbsd box can do at this point.... :^ )
a) It can boot OK. It has a couple of user and root user accounts
working OK
b) user ppp auto starts with -alias option in rc.local. It works and
a ping initiates a dial out which chats just fine and things are
cool.

What my new fbsd box can't do... :^(
a) The boot finds my NIC it seems and I have de0 interface listed and
ifconfig_de0 set in RC.CONF to the local NIC IP and netmask...BUT
ifconfig -a reports only...
de0: flags=8020<Broadcast multicast simplex>mtu 1500
ether xx:xx:xx:xx (whatever the address is)
.......but no inet IP & no netmask etc!
It doesn't say RUNNING nor UP.
Does this mean the NIC stuff ain't working?
P.S. I don't have the NIC connected on the LAN presently....does it
matter?

b) I don't have syslogd working ...Greg, doesn't matter how often I
mkfifo /var/run/log the next time I log on it won't exist again!
Can I work around the problem or should I continue my fix fest?

Hoping for help...the NIC thing is crucial
Again, here is the RC.CONF
Thanks for your patience
Keith
