The following reply was made to PR i386/58493; it has been noted by GNATS. From: Devon H.O'Dell <dodell@sitetronics.com> To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, dodell@sitetronics.com Cc: Subject: Re: i386/58493: machine page faults for no apparent reason Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2004 13:55:18 +0100 I figured out that the cause of this was playing music in XMMS from a USB HDD. I'm sorry; this was a long time ago and I no longer have that configuration on the machine with the problem. I think that the ``randomness'' of the crash was determined by when I would play a Flash-based game with the Flash 6 plugin under mozilla which also required sound (the game is to be found at http://www.sikids.com/games/bmx/bmx.html, the ``password'' is ``freebird''). In any case, after a certain amount of time playing that game (which would not have sound as I was listening to music in XMMS), the machine would halt with these errors. --Devon
