The installation was as follows: i) select express installation ii) format the drive and create partitions iii) select a minimal installation iv) commit to installation (drives were formatted and FreeBSD was installed successfully) v) select additional packages/distributions to install: man pages, preformatted man pages, doc distribution These failed to install with errors vi) postinstallation configuration also worked out successfully (root passoword, additional user, configure the box as an NFS client + SSHD server, configure bge0 interface) vii) rebooted the box (sucessfully) So the problem seems to be with the disk ... maybe release candidates don't carry the full-blown set of packages and docs, in which case you can dismiss this PR. But, if this is indeed a full-blown RC, then if something is broken here, a PR should be issued.
